A podcast is a mini movie about a particular subject.

Podcasts could be used as a reteach tool, tutoring tool, and reinforcement tool.

My area had no podcasts available. However because I am a technical area under Perkins funding my students must score a 5 on the WorkKeys test in the areas of math and reading. I can use the podcast with other activities to teach and reinforce math skills. I downloaded 3 math podcasts that teach basic math skills my students need.

A audio or movie file that can have educational value.

Yes--They could be used to teach proper way to sand, paint, install, and straighten.

I found a podcast from Yale on leadership which is important to my class. I also found math podcast that could be used to reinforce math skills. No podcast were available for collision repair.

A podcast is an audio recording of a subject that is being taught or lectured. Sometimes music is added in the backround to add interest to presentations.

Podcasts could be used in my classroom to work in round robin activities for multi tasking or group work. Yes, they would benefit my classroom because each student could work at there own pace without interupting others. It would also come into play when students are placed on homebound for periods of time.

My examples would be: A safety unit based in the work place.CSO0512.1.7 Describe the procedures for safe evacuation of the work site in the event of an emergency.
A unit on work ethics for different business situations.CSO0512.3.4 Describe and demonstrate the characteristics of professional conduct. The third would be a unit on designing your own personal employment portfolio. CSO 0512.7.1 Compose an employment portfolio, in basic business format...

Podcasting is a form of audio broadcasting on the Internet. It will help my students keep up if they miss a class or need reinforcement.
Three examples that I would like to use podcasting for is: homebound, reteach resource, and even use it for a substitute teacher so the students still get instruction in my absence.

Yes it would benefit my students to be able to listen to podcasts. I teach two subjects during a class session, so I would need to record a podcast for one of the classes.
Some examples of podcasting for my students would be to record my lecture for one of the classes while I do an activity with the other class.
These podcasts will be very good for a student when they miss a class. They could listen to the podcast to get caught up.
With my BCA I class, I could record a podcast on how to do a certain procedure, like mailmerge. The students could listen to the podcast and do the activity at the same time.

Yes
Explain at least 3 examples of podcast that could be used for your class.
1. Excellent resource tool to use for special education students or any students needing reinforcement of lessons.
2. Business education students could use podcasts as a source of information gathering for latest trends/happenings in the business sector. Web sites such as CNN and Fox News have several podcasts available daily.
3. Podcasts could also be very beneficial if a student is placed on homebound or has to be absent from your classroom. In addition, it is often difficult to find business education substitutes. Podcasts could be used in a teacher's absence.

Would it benefit your students to have podcasts available for your class?

Yes, because it incorporates video and audio in which will benefit students that are both audio and visual learners.

Read a particular book and create a book report displaying both their written response and audio response to the book.

For President's Day discuss Abraham Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address, then allow the students to listen to a podcast about the Gettysburg Address.

Allow students to bring in something for show and tell and record them to create a group podcast.

A podcast is an audio or video recorded and edited on a computer and uploaded to a web server using software such as iTunes. Listeners may subscribe to podcasts and download new episodes when they are uploaded to the internet.

I think that it would be beneficial to have podcasts available for my students. Some of my students want to know more advanced techniques that are sometimes not covered in our introductory book and this would be a means for them to get this extra knowledge.

I think that it would be beneficial to use a podcast when I am absent from school. Sometimes the substitute teacher does not have any idea what is going on and at least the students would get instruction directly related to the lesson. I noticed that there was a lot of information about Photoshop available and the students could pick up some extra information to create more complicated projects. I also think that some students need to do more technical things in order to be learning in class. Podcasting would be something new to a lot of my students and it would hopefully tweak their creativity.

I think that my students could benefit greatly from podcasts to reinforce concepts that had been taught in class or as a reteach tool for concepts that had not been mastered in previous classes. They would also be valuable for students who had been absent and missed a class discussion.
I found several podcasts that I could recommend to students. "Math According to Mike" had Algebra 2 Lessons including one on Composition of Functions (A2.2.9). "Mr Corns Math Classes" had another Algebra 2 objective about logarithmic functions.(A2.2.16) There were a couple of casts that covered some topics that my students had not mastered in earlier classes. (prime factors or composite number at "Is All About Math".

A podcast is an Internet radio show on demand. it can be listened to when and as often as desired. It is portable. It can be downloaded to the computer or a devices like an MP3 player or iPod.

My students could benefit from podcasts. They could serve as reviews or present new ideas not prsented in the textbook. They would have to be short or student attention would wander. Students could benefit from making their own podcasts as reveiws.

Explamples of podcasts that could be used in my class include Personal Selling Process from Texam A&M's Marketing 321 class. This was a review of the 7 steps of the selling process which matches my objective 0422.7.1 (steps in sellin process) Another podcast from Texas A&M titled Types of Advertising would match objective 0425.2.1 (promotion and role in economy) This podcast reviewed institutional and product advertsing with examples of each type. The third podcast was titled Medical Marketing Ideas. This discussed how doctors can market their practice to increase their patient/customer base and not seem like used car salesman. This could be related to objective 0422.3.1 (various marketing occupations)because it could be used to show that all businesess use marketing, not just retail.

A podcast is an audio that can be listened to by any internet user.

Podcasts may be used to gain knowledge, expand knowledge and to present knowledge in a different, possibly, more understandable way. I found a site that had young elementary students explaining their project. Sometimes just the wording of peer helps students understand.

As an elementary teacher we cover many subjects/topics. This opens a wide door for information. It provides different way to present information to students. I found three podcasts that are very usable in the classroom. There was sixty second science, that provides good information and would start a good discussion. The another was vocab. site that gives definitions to words and puts them to music. It uses the words in fun sentences in the song. There is a variety of words/topics on this site. The last one was a third grade class podcast project on habitats. This would not only allow my students to learn information on habitats, but could inspire them to create their own podcasts!

1.What is a podcast?

Online distribution of audio/video content over the internet.

2.Would it benefit your students to have podcasts available for your class?

Podcasts are like having a guest speaker in your classroom or going on a field trip. Getting someone famous like Fed Chairman Bernake might be difficult. In light of the cost of diesel fuel a field trip might also prove difficult. So yes, podcasts can beneficial. I am not sure that showing a podcast of the content you are supposed to be teaching is that beneficial, unless it is used as a supplement.

3.Explain at least 3 examples of podcast that could be used for your class (even if you don't think it is beneficial). Include content standards when possible.

-An interview podcast to help the students see an interview in action (personal finance)

-A tour of the New York Stock Exchange (intro to business)

-A podcast from an accountant talking about the importance of ethics

I think it would be beneficial to some of my classes especially Introduction to Business. Students could create their own or view one some else created to get a different approach to a topic. They often get bored with my lectures and discussions, it would be a fresh take.
